Activist - Logan Bates

Logan is on Instagram as @tinkunutz14!

What's your hometown?
Puako, Hawai'i

What does activism mean to you?
Activism means, to me, going out there and doing whatever it takes to create a change for the better. It means standing up for what you believe in, and prompting others to do the same.

Why surfing?
I was raised in a family where you learned to swim before you could walk, so naturally, surfing interested me. I always wanted to be like my older cousins and it helped that I'm related to the Aikau family so I got to watch big wave surf competitions, and meet amazing surfers like Makua Rothman, Mason Ho, and John John Florence. I knew from a young age that being in the water was my passion, and fortunately for me, I had a beach house on the Big Island so as soon as I got home from school I would hit the water.

How do you see yourself in 10 years?
In 10 years, I see myself with little activists of my own running along the beach and being completely content living in paradise.

What's the one thing that inspires you?
My main inspiration is God. He could have placed me anywhere in the world, but He placed me in the heart of the ocean with windswept beaches, great surf, and enough Aloha to cover miles and miles of beaches. Because of His grace, I have a desire to wake up every day grateful, and as a better version of myself.
